The Challenge 5000 is a season long event to unite the cancer warrior community and the athlete community to empower and support one another in our commitment to exercise and wellness goals for 2014. We will set our goals to walk, hike, run, swim, bike, and race our way to reach our collective goal of 5000 miles of exercise and wellness!
When Team Inspiration’s very first cancer warrior, Kristen Adelman, was diagnosed with cancer in 2000 and was told she had very little chance to survive, she decided she would do her part in making sure she had the best chance at beating this disease. She was an athlete most of her life and was training for triathlons when she was diagnosed. Kristen and her doctors at NIH knew it was important for her to stay strong body, mind and spirit for the difficult road ahead. She decided to set a personal goal of 5000 miles of hiking, running, swimming, and biking that would help her get through this challenge. After numerous rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and three bone marrow transplants, AND 5000 miles of riding, running, hiking swimming, etc., Kristen is thriving and continues to pursue exercise, yoga and energy work as a means to continue living a life of wellness and joy. During her treatment Kristen ran several marathons and completed the Eagleman 70.3 Ironman! Her current goal is to run a marathon in every state – she has 42 down and 8 to go!
